 A few weeks ago, on our way back to Kihei from kiteboarding, we pulled into the entrance off of Highway 311 but they were about to close, so we decided to postpone a tour. Yesterday, I was in the neighborhood... a whole 2 miles from the condo. I took these images from Route 310. Kealia Pond NWR is a huge wetland, 691 acres to be exact.

The early morning sunshine really brightens the yellow field.

You can the Kealia Coastal Boardwalk from North Kihei Road.

It is a smooth, wide walkway and gives ample opportunity to see the birds in the wetlands. I would wear a hat though. There is minimal shade here.

Here is an Ae'o. It is an endangered subspecies of the black-necked stilt.
