| La Perouse Bay can be found at the end of Makena
Alanui Road in South Maui, Hawaii.
If you want to get a feel for
Maui and how it all began, I recommend a trip to the southeast
corner of the island. Over here, one can see the last volcanic
eruption on Maui. |
 |
| You can really see the black lava
vein and how it flowed down the hill and turned into a
hardened lava pool at the bottom. |
 |
| I found this view extremely
interesting. At this point in time, I had hiked sections of
the trail twice. I couldn't wait to compare a picture
of the lava from the air to an image of the lava from the
ground. |

In this photo, I ran ahead to get a shot of Rick and John
on the trail. While the lava path was rocky in this section,
it was still fairly easy to navigate compared to what lay
ahead. |

| This is where the trail got rough. I
would put my camera away so both hands were free to aid in my
crossing. Periodically, I would stop to take a picture of the wild
looking lava rock.
If you walk here, bring very sturdy shoes. These rocks are sharp and
they can move easily underfoot. It wouldn't be hard to sprain your
ankle out here. Also, I would recommend a lot of
sunscreen. As you can see, there isn't a lot of shade on this hike. |

 |
| This ocean front trail was one of my
favorite sections. Who doesn't want to walk down a
windy road along side beautiful blue water. |
 |
|
| During one visit here, dolphins
were just off shore. The park ranger said they like to come here to
rest. |
 |
| As I mentioned above. The hike or :La
Perouse trail is very bright without many options for shade on Maui,
Hawaii... Bring Sunscreen, sunglasses, good shoes and a visor or hat
if possible. |
