3/2 -- Is it me, or did the weekend just fly
past? Sunday, we decided to behave like tourists and drive
around the western side of the island. It is the third time
for both and as we looked into one another's eyes we gushed
that it is the third time we have done this together. I then
realized we were driving alongside a steep cliff and all eyes
must be kept on the road. All eyes? Yes! How else will I know
if I need to yell stop and step on the imaginary brake?
One of my favorite stops was Nakalele Blowhole,
Maui.
Interestingly enough, we drove past it at
first. On the first pass, it looked like a slightly crowded
lookout location. Why stop here when plenty of lookouts are
almost empty, I thought? When I couldn't get the right angle
on a photograph, we turned around.
As I stood gazing around at the view, I
noticed two people snorkeling in the very clear blue water,
whales breeching just a few hundred yards offshore, some wild
looking rock formations below and a whale blowing on land.
Huh? Time to back up. Ahh! This is why everyone stopped here.
A blowhole.
